Former Moroccan Minister Barred from Travel Amid Financial Probe

The former Minister of the Civil Service, Mohamed Moubdii, had his passport confiscated, with a ban on leaving the national territory. The former member of Abdelillah Benkirane’s government must face justice following the financial irregularities found within the municipality of Fqih Ben Salah.
According to the daily Ahdath Al yaoum, the file of the deputy of the Popular Movement would have passed into the hands of the Attorney General, Mohamed Abdenabaoui. Previously, he had been heard by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police.
Mohamed Moubdii is among the elected officials suspected of misappropriation in the exercise of their duties. The audit report, carried out by the Court of Auditors, reveals several dysfunctions related to the urban renewal contract award procedures in Fqih Ben Salah.
According to the report of the Court of Auditors, these are non-compliance with the rules and forms of use during the award of contracts, some of which would have been awarded without prior publicity or competition. Worse, companies have been awarded contracts without setting prices or deadlines.
The man, who was entrusted in 2015 with the development of the national strategy to fight corruption, has been the mayor of Fqih Ben Salah since 1997. He is the subject of several complaints filed by NGOs for "illicit enrichment" and "violation of the public procurement code".
