Former Moroccan Lawmaker Faces 20-Year Sentence in Billion-Dollar Corruption Case

In the case of the former MP, Zine El Abidine El Houass, known as "Moul 17 billion", the competent public prosecutor’s office requested, last Wednesday, a sentence of 20 years in prison against the former Istiqlal deputy.
In addition to this 20-year prison sentence requested against the accused, the Deputy Prosecutor General at the Court of Appeal of Casablanca has asked the court to seize the assets of the former President of the Council of Had Soualem, reports the daily Al Massae.
According to the same source, Hakim Ouardi considers that Houass’ assets come from corruption. He wants proof of their true origin, which the accused was unable to provide.
In detail, the Deputy Prosecutor General mentioned 27 real estate or land properties, 8 of which are in the name of the ex-deputy’s wife. As for the amount of her bank account, it amounts to more than 4 million dirhams. The woman also could not explain the origin of such a sum of money.
