Former Moroccan Foreign Minister Mohammed Benaïssa Dies at 88

Mohammed Benaïssa, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the Municipal Council of Assilah, died overnight at the age of 88. His death follows a long battle against illness.
Mr. Benaïssa’s health had recently deteriorated. After a stay in a private clinic in Rabat, he had been transferred to the military hospital in the capital. This transfer was carried out on the instructions of King Mohammed VI.
Despite this care, the former minister passed away.
Mohammed Benaïssa held several important positions during his career. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Culture. He also served as Moroccan ambassador to the United States.
His political commitment was also manifested at the local level. He chaired the Municipal Council of Assilah for more than four decades. He was also a deputy and a member of the House of Councillors.
