Former Moroccan Consulate Official Sentenced to 4 Years for Million-Dirham Embezzlement

Accused of embezzlement of public funds, a former senior official of the Moroccan consulate in Italy, in detention, was recently sentenced by the chamber in charge of financial crimes of the Fez Court of Appeal to four years in prison and a fine of 30,000 dirhams.
The convicted person was arrested a few months ago, following a complaint from the consulate accusing him of having embezzled more than one million dirhams. After his crime, he had fled, which led the Moroccan authorities to issue an international arrest warrant against him for embezzlement of public funds.
The agent was finally arrested by the French police and then handed over to the Moroccan authorities. Brought before the Attorney General on December 26, he will be referred to the chamber in charge of financial crimes of the Fez Court of Appeal, which has just handed down its verdict. Previously, the defense had failed to reach an agreement with the plaintiff.
