Former Moroccan MP and American Businessman Among Four Jailed in Public Funds Embezzlement Case

A former Member of Parliament from the Popular Movement Party (MP) and former president of the Beni Mellal commune, a Moroccan-American, a public official, and an engineer are being prosecuted while in custody, while twelve other individuals are being prosecuted while free on charges related to embezzlement of public funds.
On Tuesday, the investigating judge at the Casablanca Court of Appeal ordered the detention at Okacha prison, in the same city, of Ahmed Chada, former Member of Parliament of the Popular Movement Party and former president of the Beni Mellal commune, Ahmed H., a Moroccan holding American nationality and manager of a company, Mohamed K., public official, as well as engineer Mohamed M., already incarcerated in connection with the case of the president of the communal council of the city of Fquih Ben Salah, Mohamed Moubdii, reports Al3omk.
He has, however, decided to prosecute twelve other individuals on provisional release. These are Saad S., director of a company, Saïd M., manager of a company, the current president of the communal council of Beni Mellal, Ahmed B., Mohamed S., company manager, Redouane B., company manager, as well as Hamid I., food products trader, and Nabil B., company manager; Rachid Ch., company manager, Abdelouahed A., farmer, Rachid Z., communal official, and Mohamed M., architect.
These sixteen individuals all appeared before the King’s Attorney General at the Casablanca Court of Appeal on Tuesday. They are being prosecuted on charges related to embezzlement of public funds, due to suspicions surrounding a number of contracts and purchase orders. Among these contracts is one concerning a real estate development with an area of seven hectares that the commune transferred to a company specializing in real estate.
