Former VP Mike Pence Scraps Morocco Visit, Focuses on Ukraine Amid Ongoing War

Mike Pence, former Vice President of the United States, will no longer be visiting Morocco this month. After Israel, he traveled to Ukraine, where the Russia-Ukraine war continues to rage.

As announced by Tom Rose, his close confidant and former senior advisor, Mike Pence did indeed visit Israel on March 7, where he received an honorary doctorate from Ariel University, alongside David Friedman, the former U.S. ambassador. But his visit to Morocco, where he was expected to "affirm his faith in the Abraham Accords," will no longer take place. On Thursday, a spokesman for the political advocacy group recently launched by Pence, Advancing American Freedom, told Jewish Insider by email that the former U.S. vice president was "on his way back from the Ukrainian border" and would no longer be going to Morocco.

Under the aegis of former U.S. President Donald Trump, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain had normalized their relations with the State of Israel on September 15, 2020. Sudan and Morocco followed suit. The kingdom had restored its relations with Israel on December 10, 2020 in exchange for the U.S. recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. Mike Pence is one of the architects of the Abraham Accords.
