Former Lawmakers Sentenced in Moroccan Billionaire Safe Heist Case

The Agadir Court of Appeal has just sentenced two former parliamentarians and a lawyer to two years in prison, one of which is suspended, for their involvement in the theft of the safe of billionaire Moussa El H., alias El Houari.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the accused, prosecuted for participation in an aggravated theft with burglary, were ordered to pay compensation of one million dirhams to the civil party. The facts date back to February 2021, when the surveillance cameras in the office of the wealthy businessman, Moussa El H., were deactivated and his safe containing various documents, cash and checks was taken away in a car.
One of the checks, made out in the name of one of the persons mentioned in the case, allowed the investigators to identify the thieves and their accomplices. Three people involved in the operation were sentenced to six years in prison. During their hearing, they admitted the facts, stressing that the real instigators were business partners of the billionaire.
