Former IMF Chief Strauss-Kahn Launches Humanitarian Effort in Morocco

The former head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dominique Strauss-Kahn, has embarked on humanitarian work with his wife, Myriam L’Aouffir, who has been involved in the field since 2004.
In Marrakech where he settled after his troubles that led him to prison, Dominique Strauss-Kahn is experiencing humanitarian aid through the Mekkil’ association. For the former French Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry, his commitment will be much more remarkable in the field of mother and child protection in the broad sense in order to "try to modestly return to the Moroccans a part of the benefits with which they have overwhelmed him."
On the association’s website launched this Saturday, Dominique Strauss-Kahn states that Morocco is his second country. "It has given me a lot, from Agadir where I spent my childhood, to Marrakech where I live today". Even if he acknowledges that from Agadir to Marrakech, "more than half a century has passed, marked by the transformation of this country that is so dear to him", the former French politician believes that there is still (a lot) to be done, in particular "to improve living conditions, save lives and among the most precious, those of children, to remain attentive to the most destitute populations and to try to offer them a better future and prospects", particularly in the Marrakech-Safi region.
Putting words into action, the association has launched several activities, namely the distribution of E-Learning phone recharges for the benefit of underprivileged students in the douars (villages) of the commune of Tassoultante, near Marrakech, with the support of Orange Maroc. It has also distributed food baskets to the most destitute families affected by the measures related to the confinement and the state of health emergency decreed in the country to curb the spread of covid-19.
To make its actions sustainable, the association, which also has a scientific advisor, has partnered with the Decathlon Foundation, Capgemini, Orange, the Marrakech-Safi region and Biblionef.
