Former French Minister Debunks Viral Childhood Photo During Morocco Visit

The former French Minister of Education, Najat Vallaud Belkacem, has been visiting Morocco for a few days. In an interview with Al Oâmk, she revealed that the photo of the little shepherdess circulating on social networks is false.
"I don’t have any photos from my childhood in Morocco," she explained to the website. But she does not reject the information accompanying the photo. "I left my hometown of Ben Chiguer at an early age, leaving behind wonderful memories and people I love."
During her visit to Nador, the former French Minister of Education returned to her childhood, specifying that she immigrated to France at the age of five. "I am happy to visit my family’s house in the village of Ben Chiguer, even if no one lives there anymore today. Its walls carry unforgettable memories," she confides.
"I still remember my cousins and aunts, as well as my grandfather whom I helped herd the sheep. I also remember my sister with whom I ran in the mountains and my grandmother in the kitchen." She admits to having always been amazed by the kindness and friendliness of the inhabitants of the village of Ben Chiguer. "I am happy to see them and talk to them. I feel like they are my family because of our common roots."
Speaking about the education of young girls, she stressed that "school is very important, because it is the only means that can change anyone’s destiny." She congratulated the Moroccan authorities for their efforts in this area, especially in rural areas.
