Former French Minister Dati Faces Corruption Probe Over Renault-Nissan Contracts

Rachida Dati, the former Minister of Justice under Nicolas Sarkozy, is accused of "misuse of corporate assets" and corruption, in a case related to the Renault-Nissan alliance subsidiary, RNBV.

A Renault shareholder filed a complaint against Rachida Dati and criminologist Alain Bauer for "reckless use of Renault’s funds". Contracts with the Dutch subsidiary of the Renault-Nissan alliance are being questioned.

"My suspicions concern the reckless use of Renault’s funds," stresses the lawyer for the civil party, quoted by 20minutes, who adds that "the contracts are questionable in terms of their amounts, carried out for the benefit of a subsidiary with no employees".

Created by Carlos Ghosn to represent the alliance of the two manufacturers, RNBV is accused of having incurred 11 million euros in suspicious expenses, of which 900,000 euros were received by Rachida Dati between 2010 and 2012 and 1 million by Alain Bauer. The former head of the alliance is under investigation in Japan for these financial irregularities.

In response to these defamatory remarks, Rachida Dati’s lawyers denounce a "slanderous press campaign led by the lawyer of an anonymous Renault shareholder constantly disseminating defamatory remarks constituting false information with the sole aim of destabilizing Rachida Dati who has announced her candidacy for mayor of Paris".

The former Franco-Moroccan minister has decided to counter-attack by filing a complaint in turn for "slanderous denunciation".
