Former Belgian Minister Kitir Apologizes for Leadership Missteps, Reflects on Diplomatic Challenges

After two months of silence, Meryame Kitir, former Belgian Minister of Cooperation, addressed her colleagues and others with whom she collaborated during her term in the Belgian government on Sunday.
"I have matured a lot and I am still maturing in the way I lead. I apologize if I have unintentionally hurt people," the socialist wrote on Facebook. Meryame Kitir also acknowledged that it is "by trying and making mistakes" that she was able to grasp the requirements of the diplomatic world. Of Moroccan origin, she has often faced racist and Islamophobic insults, reports 7sur7.
The public apologies of the deputy come two months after she gave up her ministerial post for reasons related to her "mental health". During her term, Meryame Kitir is said to have had problems within her cabinet, leading to the opening of a psychosocial investigation among her collaborators.
According to the results of this investigation, it was impossible in the circumstances of the time to "restore working relationships". The current Minister of Cooperation is Caroline Gennez. As for Kitir, she will resume her seat in the House of Representatives in Belgium.
