Morocco’s Unbeatable Streak: Atlas Lions Roar to World Record

Morocco won their match against Congo (1-0), in the last round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, finishing this phase with 8 wins. A flawless run that allows the Atlas Lions to break the record of 15 consecutive wins set by Spain between June 2008 and June 2009 and by Germany between 2010 and 2011, thus establishing a new record for the longest winning streak in the history of world football.

The last match that Morocco did not win dates back to March 2024 when they drew (0-0) against Mauritania in a friendly. Since then, Walid Regragui’s men have won six matches during the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco, as well as the eight qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup and two friendly matches, for a total of 16 wins. During this unbeaten streak, Morocco have scored 50 goals and conceded only four.

The Moroccan team could play a friendly match with world champion Argentina during the November break, in order to better prepare for the 2026 World Cup. "We want to play against the best teams in the world. If we cannot face Argentina, we are ready to face an African or Asian team to discover a different style of play," said Walid Regrgui, the coach of the Atlas Lions.

Beyond the construction of stadiums, Morocco has put in place an ambitious plan to establish itself as a reference in world football. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), in collaboration with the Cherifian Office of Phosphates (OCP) and other private sector partners, plan to set up a special fund to finance and develop football in Morocco. The objective of this fund is to modernize the training centers and train young talents.
