Food Poisoning Strikes Moroccan Wedding: 11 Family Members Hospitalized After Chicken Dish

Eleven members of the same family were taken care of by medical services this week in the province of Safi, presenting symptoms of food poisoning. The incident occurred in the rural commune of Khat Azkane, following a meal consumed during a wedding ceremony.
According to the initial elements, the symptoms of acute poisoning appeared after the ingestion of a chicken-based dish. The eleven people were transported to the Mohammed V hospital in Safi to be examined. Following the care, eight of them were able to leave the establishment, while three patients remained under medical supervision due to the persistence of their symptoms.
An investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to shed light on the circumstances of the incident. Entrusted to the Royal Gendarmerie, the investigations aim to identify the source of the contamination and to determine any negligence or responsibilities.
According to the Ministry of Health, the country reports more than 1,600 cases of collective food poisoning each year. The data indicates that nearly 40% of these cases are directly related to family gatherings, where the poor storage or cooking of animal products is the most frequently identified cause.
