Flu Outbreak in Morocco: 11 Dead, 32 Hospitalized as Health Ministry Reports Normal Seasonal Trends

New report from the Ministry of Health which reports 11 deaths in Morocco due to complications related to the flu A.
According to the Ministry of Health, out of the 58 cases of patients with respiratory infections, 15 have recovered, 32 are still under treatment and 11 have died (4 cases in Casablanca, 3 in Tangier, plus 4 deaths in Rabat, Fez, Tan-Tan, and Azilal). "The epidemiological indicators of seasonal flu remain normal compared to the global epidemiological situation and previous seasons," it said in a statement.
It further explains that out of the 684 samples taken from patients with flu-like syndrome or severe acute respiratory infections, 160 of them were affected by the flu, or 23.3%. Among the infected sample, 97.3% of the isolated viruses were of type A against 2.5% of type B. As for type A viruses, the A(H1N1) subtype represents 78.8% against 21.2% of the A(H3N2) subtype, the statement also specifies.
The ministry recalls that the 11 fatal cases affected vulnerable people, namely pregnant women, the elderly or children under 5 years of age.
