Floods Disrupt Travel in Morocco’s Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Closing Key Highway

Heavy rains in several areas of the Drâa-Tafilalet region have caused flooding. As a direct consequence, national road No. 10, connecting Ouarzazate to Errachidia, has been closed to traffic. The interruption affects a section at the level of the Aït Hakou wadi in the province of Tinghir.
This closure is due to the significant rise in the water level of the wadi that crosses the road at this location. This situation has forced road users to wait on site to avoid exposing themselves to the danger posed by the floodwaters.
Faced with this incident, several local sources interviewed by Al3omk reiterated the need to build appropriate engineering structures. The construction of bridges or elevated passages is recommended to prevent the submersion of these road axes during floods. These roads play an essential role in inter-provincial connections within Drâa-Tafilalet and in connecting the region to the rest of the Kingdom.
Meanwhile, the National Meteorological Directorate (DGM) has issued an updated orange-level alert bulletin, indicating the forecast of potentially dangerous weather phenomena. Heavy thunderstorms, with rainfall accumulations estimated between 25 and 50 mm, which may be locally accompanied by hail and wind gusts. These conditions are expected in the provinces of Figuig, Jerada, Guercif, Taourirt, Sefrou, Boulemane, Taza, Tinghir, Errachidia and Midelt.
