Flight Bookings Surge in France After Government Eases Travel Restrictions

Airlines and online platforms have seen increased demand for flight bookings to Morocco and other destinations following the presentation of the French government’s deconfinement plan on Tuesday, November 24, 2020.
The flight comparator site Kayak recorded, on November 24 and 25, an exponential increase of 115% in domestic flight searches compared to the two previous days, reports BFM Business. "Emmanuel Macron’s last speech was eagerly awaited by everyone and the confirmation that we will be able to travel at Christmas had an unprecedented effect on flight searches," explained the company.
At Air France, the volume of bookings, mainly on domestic and overseas routes, has quadrupled. At Mister Fly, bookings represent 50% of the 2019 level, 65% of which are for the month of December. They were barely 15% before the French president’s speech. "The market that has resumed immediately is the affinity market, that is to say that of travelers who want to return to see their family for Christmas," said Frédéric Filloud, director of e-commerce at the airline.
With 17%, France ranks first in terms of bookings, ahead of Morocco and Tunisia (9%) and Senegal (5%).
