Flagrant délit de mensonge du magazine « Le Point »
The General Directorate of National Security has officially denied the information published by the French magazine Le Point. Several rumors claimed that businesses owned by sub-Saharan nationals had been targeted by attacks and fires. On site, the authorities confirm that no such incident has occurred, either during or after the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).
This clarification follows an article published on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the content of which caused astonishment among the security services. The DGSN thus specifies having "taken note, with great surprise, of the content of an article published by the French weekly Le Point in its edition of Wednesday, January 21, 2026". Contrary to what was written, no criminal act targeting the economic interests of citizens of sub-Saharan Africa has been recorded throughout the Moroccan territory.
To prevent the spread of fake news, the police services explain that they have closely monitored social networks throughout the duration of the competition. Many false information was already circulating on the internet, and the DGSN has taken care to systematically deny them through official press releases. The objective was to restore the truth with neutrality and to prevent unfounded rumors from creating a sense of insecurity.
