Five Israeli Pilgrims Killed in Morocco Road Accident

A serious road accident occurred this Friday morning. Five young people from Safed lost their lives near Ouarzazate, Morocco, while they were on a pilgrimage to Zagora.
Their vehicle overturned around 10 a.m., apparently due to the driver losing control. The five passengers were killed on the spot.
As soon as it was alerted, the Israeli international rescue unit ZAKA deployed on site. In collaboration with the Moroccan authorities, it undertook the identification procedures for the victims. "Since we received the report of this tragic accident, our international unit has been working in cooperation with the Moroccan authorities to accelerate the identification process and the return of the bodies. We are also working to provide the necessary support to the families to finalize the funeral procedures," said Haïm Weingarten, deputy director of the organization.
The Israeli authorities reacted to this tragedy. Yossi Kakon, mayor of Rosh Safed, confirmed that he is in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to follow the evolution of the situation. "We are in constant contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the official authorities managing the incident, and we are receiving regular updates on the accident," he assured.
