Fire at Moroccan Hammam Sends Women to Hospital, Sparks Safety Concerns

Several women had to be hospitalized urgently after a fire broke out in a popular hammam in the town of Ouled Teima near Taroudant. No serious injuries are to be deplored.
At a time when hammams are being criticized for still using wood when other methods for heating, among others more ecological, are possible, in the Chrarda neighborhood, in Ouled Teima, two women were asphyxiated and were taken to the emergency room due to a massive fire that broke out on the night of June 4, according to the media Kech24.
This fire terrified the people present, there to take a bath, who no longer knew what to do. According to the testimonies collected by Kech24, there were huge flames.
The fire started in the oven where the wood burns, more commonly called "fernatchi", and the flames were such that they reached other flammable products, also causing dense black smoke.
Arriving on the scene, the civil protection members nevertheless managed to bring the fire under control and rescue the women in difficulty.
