Financial Crimes Top List of Offenses in Moroccan Prisons, Report Shows

Inmates convicted of financial offenses represent the majority of the prison population, according to statistics compiled by the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR).
In total, 24,954 people are incarcerated for money-related offenses, out of 85,765 prisoners in Morocco, according to a report presented by the DGAPR to the House of Representatives.
This report notes that persons imprisoned for acts of aggression against others come in 3rd position with 14,051 prisoners (16.38%), followed by those convicted of attacks on security and public order, with a total of 10,308 prisoners (12.02%).
In 5th position are the persons imprisoned for violations of the Family Code and for attacks on public morality with 7,378 detainees, while those found guilty of various crimes account for a total of 6,158 detainees, or 7.18%.
Imprisoned women represent only a very small percentage of the total prison population with 1,982 detainees, or 2.31%, compared to 83,783 male prisoners (97.69%), according to the same report.
