Fez University Corruption Case: Professor Sentenced to Prison in ’Masters for Money’ Scandal

One year in prison and a fine of 5,000 dirhams. This is the sentence that the chamber in charge of financial crimes of the Court of Appeal has imposed on the professor, coordinator of the Master’s program, the main accused in the "Master against money" case in Fez. As for his co-defendants, three were sentenced to two months and one year of hard labor, while three others were acquitted.
According to the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, which reports the deliberations of the trial, the student who had served as an intermediary in this case was sentenced to the same penalty as the professor, a member of the association "Transparency Maroc". Six months in prison and a fine of 5,000 dirhams is the sanction imposed on his cousin, also involved in the case. Another student was sentenced to two months in prison and a fine of 2,000 dirhams. A university professor, a university official, as well as a high school teacher, were, for their part, acquitted.
These various sentences were handed down on Tuesday after the pleadings of the defense lawyers, the requisition of the public prosecutor and the point of view of the civil party, namely the University Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah.
The newspaper recalls that this case came to light at the Faculty of Law of the University Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah in 2018. It all started with a sound recording that fell into the hands of the university authorities, who decided to file a complaint against X. A recording in which success in the exam and a job were guaranteed to students for the sum of 40,000 dirhams.
