Fez Tourist Extortion Scandal: Three Arrested for Illegal Roadblock at Popular Moroccan Site

The King’s Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of Fez ordered, this Friday, the placement in custody of three people. They are suspected of acts of blackmail and the imposition of illegal payments on users wishing to access the tourist complex of Aïn El Ouali, located in the Sidi Harazem region.
This decision comes after the broadcast of a video showing the installation of a barrier on a road leading to the site. In the sequence, an individual with a masked face demands five dirhams from a motorcyclist to allow him to continue on his way.
Following the release of these images, the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie of Sidi Harazem had proceeded to the arrest of the three suspects and had initiated the first interrogations.
However, the competent public prosecutor’s office decided to entrust the continuation of the procedure to the Royal Gendarmerie of Fez. It was tasked with deepening the investigations. The three individuals will be presented to the public prosecutor’s office at the end of their custody for the continuation of the proceedings.
