The Fez police prefecture reacted to a video circulating on social media, in which a young Israeli woman holding Portuguese nationality claims to have been the victim of an alleged verbal assault, motivated by a supposed racial background linked to her Jewish religion.

"This case dates back to September 6, when a tourist, holder of a Portuguese passport, had a disagreement with a woman and her relatives, members of the Moroccan community residing abroad, due to a fortuitous misunderstanding concerning a suspicion of having filmed them without their consent," the Fez police prefecture said in a statement.

"The tourist in question contacted the tourist brigade agents in the Talâa Sghira area of Fez, stating that she had been the victim of verbal assault by a Moroccan family, accused of having filmed their passage on site without their agreement. However, she did not wish to take legal action or file a complaint directly with the competent police station."

In order to clarify the circumstances of the dissemination of this video, the Fez police prefecture stressed that "the origin of the disagreement was fortuitous and related to a suspicion of filming people without their consent, without there being any racial or discriminatory motivation linked to religion or beliefs, contrary to what has been conveyed in a somewhat distorted manner".
