Fez-Meknès Region Urges Moroccan Expats to Invest in Local Development Projects

The celebration of the national migrant day was an opportunity for the Fez-Meknès wilaya and the Regional Investment Center (CRI) to call on Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) to invest in the region.

Some MREs participated in the celebration of this day under the theme: "the contribution of the skills of Moroccans established abroad in the projects of national development". "The essential thing is to position the region on the chessboard of destinations that encourage MRE investments and that present great potential in different sectors," Yassine Tazi, Director General of the Regional Investment Center (CRI), confided to L’Économiste.

For his part, Abdelhamid Najim, Secretary General of the wilaya, declared that Morocco needs the MREs, ambassadors of their country elsewhere, and their skills, to support its emergence and development. This is why "the future investment charter is designed to encourage project leaders by favoring regional priorities," he explained.

According to Mr. Najim, the State will define "the means to involve the MREs in the major national projects, and in particular the new development model". A portal "Maghribcom.ma" is also being created to strengthen this new dynamic.

In 2019, the MREs created 297 companies, which provide services (38%), are invested in industry (26%) and in agriculture, tourism and trade in varying proportions, Yassine Tazi said. "We are betting on the MREs, because we know that our diaspora accounts for 17% of graduates from grandes écoles and an active population of more than 90%," he explained, adding that Moroccans of the world have always contributed efficiently to the development efforts undertaken in the various fields at the level of the kingdom.
