Fez Invests $178 Million in Road Upgrades Ahead of 2030 World Cup Bid

Fez is undertaking a modernization of its road infrastructure. With a view to the 2030 World Cup, a budget of 1.78 billion dirhams will be allocated to upgrading the roads serving the city’s sports complex.
The main objective of this project is to improve traffic flow and strengthen road safety around the sports complex. A partnership agreement has been approved to formalize this initiative.
The financing is divided between several actors. The regional council will contribute 38 million dirhams. The remaining envelope, i.e. 1.744 billion dirhams, will be provided by the Ministries of Economy and Finance, Equipment and Water, and the Wilaya of the Fez-Meknes region.
This project is part of the 2022-2027 regional development program (PDR), which has a total budget of 29.5 billion dirhams for the development of the region.
In parallel, the regional council has approved another partnership agreement. This concerns the improvement of the road network in all the prefectures and provinces of the region. The total investment for this second project amounts to more than one billion dirhams, shared equally between the regional council (508 million dirhams) and its partners.
The road network of the Fez-Meknes region represents 18.5% of the national network, with a total length of 7,625 km. It is divided into 918 km of national roads, 1,695 km of regional roads and 5,012 km of provincial roads.
