Fez Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Parking Attendants in Morocco

The public prosecutor at the court of first instance in Fez has decided to prosecute 11 parking attendants, commonly known as "yellow vests", in custody for acts of fraud, threat, and document forgery.
The defendants face prison sentences of one year without parole for some and with probation for others, as well as financial fines. These "yellow vests" were prosecuted in custody after a complaint was filed against them by a citizen who refused to pay them an amount of 5 dirhams, considering it illegal.
In coordination with the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), the police services of the city of Fez arrested on Tuesday eight individuals aged 30 to 40, one of whom is the subject of a national arrest warrant for acts of extortion, forgery, and identity theft.
According to the preliminary results of the investigation, the defendants forged parking tickets bearing the stamp of the municipality of Fez, which they used to defraud car owners, demanding exorbitant rates for having watched over their vehicles.
The investigators were able to identify and apprehend the suspects. The search conducted at their homes allowed the seizure of a large batch of forged tickets, as well as vests, caps, uniforms, cards, and counterfeit stamps used to commit their offenses.
