Ferry Service Resumes Between Spain and Morocco as Operation Marhaba Begins

The shipping company Trasmediterránea resumed this Wednesday the connections between the port of Motril (Granada) and Nador and Al Hoceima. The resumption coincided with the start of Operation Marhaba.
The first Trasmediterránea ferry left the port of Motril for Nador on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., coinciding with the start of Operation Marhaba during which the company will also provide, in addition to Balearia, the connections to Melilla.
Trasmediterránea plans to make two daily rotations with the port of Nador or Al Hoceima, for a total of 146 trips that will be made as part of the Transit Operation. The ferry Volcán de Timanfaya, capable of carrying 1,000 passengers and 300 vehicles, will be used on these routes.
According to the president of the Port Authority of Motril, José García Fuentes, the largest flows are expected in July and August, coinciding with the vacation periods of Moroccans residing or working in Spain. In 2019, 156,000 MREs transited through the port of Motril.
