Ferry Company Accused of Price Gouging During Marhaba Operation in Spain

Deputy and spokesman for Ceuta Ya!, Mohamed Mustafa, accused Balearia of raising ferry ticket prices in the midst of the Marhaba Operation.
"With a tripling of passenger traffic, Balearia has decided to increase the prices of its fast ferry Avemar 2 by 27%, from 8.82 euros to 11.26 euros for the residents of Ceuta. An increase that constitutes a new theft perpetrated by the shipping company that benefits from the state subsidy to guarantee the connectivity of Ceuta with the peninsula...", said Ceuta Ya! in a press release.
For deputy Mohamed Mustafa, "companies continue to abuse their monopoly position to enrich themselves at the expense of the residents of Ceuta and the few and courageous tourists". And to add: "What has become of the promise to impose public service obligations on shipping companies, which was said to be imminent? [...] We believe that only active public participation in this market can restore the public nature of this service and allow for affordable prices for all".
