Father-Son Duo Arrested in Morocco for ’Samaoui’ Fraud Scheme

The judicial police of the city of Temara, in coordination with the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), have arrested a man in his sixties and his 20-year-old son in the act of committing "Samaoui" fraud.
According to Al Akhbar, the two fraudsters were arrested on Monday in Salé. They "carefully choose their victims before approaching them with manipulative speech targeting the emotional and psychological aspects to short-circuit their reason and strip them of their belongings and money without violence," details the daily. During its investigation, the judicial police discovered that one of the suspects was wanted for fraud and issuing checks without funds.
Last year, security forces had dismantled a network that dispossessed its victims and used this "Samaoui" fraud technique, recalls the publication. Three people, including a woman, had been arrested and referred to the competent justice system. These fraudsters, who operated near bank headquarters and bus stations in several cities of the kingdom, had made numerous victims before their arrest.
