Fatal Toll Booth Crash: Driver Sentenced to 7 Years

Prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter, the man was sentenced to "seven years’ imprisonment with continued detention and cancellation of his driver’s license with a five-year ban on obtaining it," said a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office, specifying that the accused is also charged with "car theft and endangering others."

The incident occurred on August 13, 2024, at the Saint-Avold toll booth on the A4 (Paris-Strasbourg). The victim, a 59-year-old Sanef employee, was assisting a motorcyclist when she was hit by a speeding car driven by the accused. The vehicle had been stolen a few hours earlier, it is reported.

The man, of Moroccan origin, had left French territory after the accident. The French justice system issued an arrest and extradition warrant against him, which was transmitted to the Moroccan authorities. But a month later, the convicted man returned to France and surrendered to the gendarmerie. He was indicted for aggravated involuntary manslaughter.

During his interrogation, he admitted the facts, acknowledging that he was at the wheel of the vehicle that had hit the employee during the forced passage through the toll booth. His accomplice in the car theft, arrested on August 29, 2024 and indicted for theft in a group, was sentenced to 30 months in prison, including 24 with probation.
