Far-Right Vox Party Proposes Stricter Spanish Citizenship Rules for Moroccans

Vox recently presented to the plenary session of Congress two legislative proposals on immigration, one asking the government to suspend the granting of visas to Moroccans and the other restricting access to Spanish nationality.
The objective of the far-right party, in making this proposal on restrictions on the granting of Spanish nationality, is to provide Spain with a "more objective and strict" legislation, like that of France, Germany or Italy in this matter. Currently, it is enough to reside in Spain for a period of 10 years to obtain nationality. The period of residence is reduced to five years for those with refugee status and two years for nationals of Latin America or countries with a special relationship with Spain.
The reform proposed by Vox proposes to increase the legal and continuous residence period for the granting of Spanish nationality to 15 years and to maintain the reduced periods for the other cases. In addition, applicants for nationality will also have to prove their proficiency in the Spanish language and pass a written test on the constitutional, historical and cultural knowledge of Spain. They will also have to formalize the renunciation of their previous nationality. Vox wants, in doing so, to put an end to the "fraudulent practices" in obtaining Spanish nationality. "Ultimately, the goal is to strengthen the conditions for granting nationality," it assures in the proposal.
The party of Santiago Abascal has presented a second bill aimed at "stopping the migratory invasion" of Spain. More specifically, Vox is asking the government to "suspend the issuance or granting of entry visas to Spain to all citizens of the countries of origin of migrants such as Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania, as long as these countries do not collaborate for the return of migrants". The far-right formation accuses the authorities of these countries of failing to fulfill their "obligations and responsibilities" in controlling migration flows.
