Unaccompanied Moroccan minors live under the threat of the local population in Spain. Indeed, they are victims of a xenophobic campaign whose instigators are far-right activists. Acts of violence have been perpetrated in the Catalonia region, reports Le 360.
Four Moroccan minors were injured in a commune in the suburbs of Barcelona, the same site reports. At the instigation of far-right activists, the inhabitants of the neighboring localities of the Catalan capital violently expressed their discontent at the presence of unaccompanied Moroccan minors in their region. The degeneration of their outburst of anger in a reception center resulted in four injuries.
At the origin of this situation, the distribution of hostile leaflets against the Moroccan minors present in the country. Worse, a xenophobic discourse exacerbates the situation. Exasperated, part of civil society lends a hand to the young Moroccans. Civil society actors call on the Government to protect Moroccan minors and guarantee them access to social protection services, the health system and education.
In this dynamic, Chakir El Hamrani, the Advisor in charge of the Employment and Social Affairs portfolio in the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, of Moroccan origin, denounces this racist campaign of far-right groups and threatens to bring the matter to justice.
Realizing the situation, the Catalan Parliament has legislated in favor of Moroccan minors, which will allow them to regularly receive the financial assistance granted to them by the local Government, until they reach adulthood (23 years).
