Family Sues Tetouan Clinic for Alleged Medical Malpractice in Fatal Hysterectomy Case

In Tetouan, the family of a patient who died following a hysterectomy has filed a complaint against a clinic they accuse of medical error.
The case is brought before the court of first instance in Tetouan. The latter will try to determine at the hearing next Thursday whether the patient’s state of health before her death allowed her to undergo the surgical procedure decided by the attending physician, whether the medical protocol followed was effective, whether the attending physician could have avoided any complications due to her medical history, and whether the deceased had undergone the necessary examinations and tests to ensure that her health condition allowed her to undergo a new surgical procedure, reports the daily Al Akhbar. The clinic’s lawyer will have to prepare his defense.
The patient was a 57-year-old woman. She was admitted to a private clinic after experiencing bleeding. She had been examined by a gynecologist who prescribed a biopsy in a specialized department to remove and analyze polyps. The analyses carried out in a laboratory in the city showed the formation of abnormal cells on the cervix. Additional analyses were carried out. The patient was then hospitalized in the clinic and underwent a double hysterectomy and ovarian removal. But the operations turned tragic: the fifty-year-old died. Surprising for her family, who requested access to her medical file. But the clinic only gave them a general report. Enough to push the deceased’s children to file a complaint against the clinic.
