Family of Slain Brussels Man Demands Action from Forest Officials After Fatal Shooting

After the death of Soufiane Benali, 23 years old, which occurred during a shooting on July 5 in Forest, his family sent a letter to the municipal authorities on Monday, calling on their responsibility.
For the family, the neighborhoods south of Forest receive no attention from the municipal authorities who have completely abdicated.
The alderman of Forest, Alain Mugabo, is not surprised by the letter from the victim’s family. "We are well aware of the resentment, the anger expressed by the family in the face of such a tragedy," he said, before specifying that three days after the incident, he had held a first meeting with the residents of the neighborhood and mainly the family.
A second meeting is planned between the family and the college "to continue the dialogue engaged and see how to take advantage of this tragedy to solve a number of problems, in order to improve the life of the neighborhood," added the alderman.
Alain Mugabo is aware of the "structural problems of social inequality, lack of youth training..." raised by the victim’s family. He also supports that the neighborhood has not been left behind and that it is even one of those that have benefited from significant investment by the municipality, even if, he admits, "a lot remains to be done".
