Family Cancels Memorial March for 26-Year-Old Who Died After Police Encounter in Brussels

The family of Mounir, a young man of 26 years old, who died after a police intervention in Rue du Brabant in Schaerbeek, has cancelled the white march planned for yesterday, Sunday.
Mounir’s family wanted to organize this march to pay tribute to the young man, but they ultimately cancelled it. The deputy spokeswoman for the North Brussels police zone had confirmed that an intervention had taken place during the night from Wednesday to Thursday last week for a "naked person on the public highway" who "seemed to be under the influence of substances".
According to the police, Mounir had a cardiac arrest in the ambulance during his transfer between the site of the intervention and the hospital. He died last Thursday. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the exact circumstances of the police intervention and the death.
The victim’s family does not believe the version of the facts. They have decided to join the civil party.
