Family Demands Answers in Death of 26-Year-Old After Police Arrest in Brussels

The family of Mounir, a 26-year-old man who died after a police arrest on Rue du Brabant in Schaerbeek, wants to know the truth. They have joined the civil party to have access to the file.
The circumstances of Mounir’s death, aged 26, remain unclear for the family. The deputy spokeswoman for the North Brussels police zone confirmed that an intervention took place during the night from Wednesday to Thursday last week for a "naked person on the public highway" who "seemed to be under the influence of substances".
According to the police, Mounir had a cardiac arrest in the ambulance during his transfer from the scene of the intervention to the hospital. His relatives do not believe this version of the facts. According to them, "the victim’s body showed numerous traces of blows and there remain large areas of shadow to be clarified as to the motivations of the arrest and the way it took place," reports BX1. Wishing to know the exact circumstances of the young man’s arrest, his family has joined the civil party.
For its part, the public prosecutor’s office has ordered an autopsy to shed light on the death.
