Family Arrested in Morocco for Nephew’s Murder Linked to Drug Trafficking Dispute

Four sisters, their brother and the daughter of one of them were brought before the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Kénitra. They are accused of being involved in the premeditated voluntary manslaughter of their nephew, following a dispute over money earned from drug trafficking.
The case came to light a year and a half ago when the judicial police opened an investigation following the discovery in a public dump of the dismembered body of the victim "Jamaghi", aged 36. The investigations were carried out by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BNPJ) in collaboration with the scientific police.
They made it possible to identify the instigator of this odious act. Recognized as a major drug dealer, she was staying at the time of the events in the Al Arjat prison in Salé for a case of corruption and had suffered from depression 18 months ago during the murder of her nephew. The family had been known for years for its involvement in drug trafficking, prostitution and pimping. To muddy the waters, the accused had organized protest sit-ins to demand that the police services find the killers of their nephew and bring them to justice.
It took the arrest of a commissioner, the head of the judicial police and his collaborators who were protecting the illicit activities of the main accused in exchange for bribes to gather the evidence of the involvement of the accused. Arrested, the main accused were brought before the general prosecutor’s office. Presented before the investigating judge, they were placed in pre-trial detention.
