Families Decline to Press Charges in Deadly Tangier Factory Flood Tragedy

The families of the victims and the few survivors of the Tanger drama, which had claimed 28 lives, have surprisingly renounced to prosecute the main defendant in court. The workshop owner was brought before the Court of Appeal of Tanger on Tuesday.
Imprisoned a few days after the floods, the 33-year-old man was questioned on Monday by the judicial police and confronted with the testimonies of the workers and the families of the victims, reports the website Alyaoum24.
Before starting his custody on Monday, the man had been admitted to intensive care in a private clinic in the city. He was to appear the next day before the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of Tanger, the same source points out.
About 28 bodies were recovered on the day of the tragedy by the rescuers and taken to the city’s hospital. The residents of the neighborhood, traumatized by the macabre scenes, had declared that a neighbor had helped the only survivors to get out of the flooded basement.
