Fake Cop Arrested in Marrakech for Identity Theft and Extortion Scheme

A 32-year-old man was arrested by the prefectural service of the judicial police of Marrakech. He would be involved in a case of theft, fraud and usurpation of function governed by law.
The suspect was arrested in the Mhamid district of Marrakech, in the act of usurping the identity of a judicial police officer in charge of investigating a case of theft from a bazaar, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a press release. The impersonator even tried to extort money from the daughter of the business owner.
The research and investigations carried out made it possible to note that the accused had committed a similar theft in September last year, using the same methods, the DGSN points out, specifying that the search of his home made it possible to seize a plastic pistol which was part of his fake policeman’s arsenal. A large sum of money, suspected of coming from this criminal activity, was also found.
The fake policeman was placed in custody at the disposal of the investigation opened with a view to elucidating all the ins and outs of this case and determining all the criminal acts with which he is charged, the DGSN said.
