Extreme Heat Wave Hits Morocco: Temperatures Soar to 48°C, Thunderstorms Expected

A heat wave (33/48°C) and heavy thunderstorms (20 to 30 mm) are expected from Saturday to Monday in several Moroccan provinces, warns the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
The heatwave persists in Morocco. Temperatures between 46 and 48°C are expected on Saturday and Sunday in the provinces of Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Kénitra, Ouezzane, Larache, Rhamna, Marrakech, El Kelâa des Sraghna, Fquih Ben Salah and Settat, the DGM said in a red alert bulletin.
Similarly, temperatures ranging between 41 and 46°C will be recorded this weekend in the provinces of Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Guercif, Meknès, El Hajeb, Khemisset, Rabat, Salé, Skhirat-Témara, Khouribga, Khénifra, Béni Mellal, Berrechid, El Jadida, Nouaceur, Mediouna, Sidi Bennour, Benslimane, Youssoufia and Chichaoua, Zagora, Tata, Taroudant, Smara, Assa-Zag and the interior of the provinces of Essaouira, Safi, Tanger-Assilah, Agadir-Idaoutanane, Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Boujdour, Aousserd, Oued Eddahab, Tan Tan, Sidi Ifni, Guelmim, Tarfaya and Laâyoune.
Casablanca and Mohammedia will experience temperatures ranging between 33 and 37°C from Saturday to Sunday. A heat wave (41 and 45°C) will be recorded on Monday, July 25 in the provinces of Zagora, Tata, Taroudant, Smara, Assa-Zag, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Kénitra, Ouezzane, Rhamna, Marrakech, El Kelâa des Sraghna, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, Béni Mellal, Youssoufia, Larache, Meknès, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Khémisset and the interior of the provinces of Essaouira, Safi, Boujdour, Aousserd, Oued Eddahab, Tan Tan, Sidi Ifni and Guelmim.
The DGM also announces that heavy thunderstorms (20 to 30 mm) are expected on Saturday from 3pm to 11pm in the provinces of Boujdour, Oued Eddahab and Aousserd.
