Extreme Heat Wave Hits Morocco: Temperatures Soar to 48°C (118°F) in Multiple Regions

A heat wave, Chergui type, is expected in the majority of Morocco from Friday, July 9, with temperatures experiencing a significant increase. This increase will exceed the monthly normal by 5 to 10 degrees.
This heat wave follows the rise of a dry and hot air mass from the South, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM). This heat wave will affect the majority of the country, particularly the southern provinces, the Souss, the plains of Tadla, Al-haouz, Rhamna, Chiadma, Tensift, the phosphate-Oulmess plateaus, the Saiss, the Gharb, the Loukkous, Chaouia, Abda, the Oriental and the Southeast.
Temperatures will vary between 44 and 48°C in the Gharb, the Saiss, the phosphate-Oulmess plateaus, the interior of the Souss, Tadla, Al-haouz, Tensift, Rhamna and the southern provinces. Temperatures will be around 40 and 44°C in the Souss, the interior of Abda, Chiadma, Doukala and Chaouia, the Loukkous, the Center and the Oriental, and between 30 and 37°C on the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts.
According to the forecasts, this heat wave will persist in the center, south and southeast of the country next week with a gradual drop in temperatures in the north from Tuesday, July 13.
