Experts Debunk Rumors of Russian Diesel Imports at Tanger Med Port

Rumors have recently circulated about a alleged import of Russian diesel through the port of Tanger Med. But this is not the case, say experts in the sector.
Moroccan importers would be buying cheaper Russian diesel to resell it in Morocco by changing its origin. This information is not verified, say experts in the oil sector, indicating that it is only rumors. According to Mostafa Labrak, an oil expert, who categorically refutes this information, "shipowners refuse to load in war zones. Even insurers have raised their rates given the increased risks in this conflict zone," revealing the extremely high cost of freight from Russia.
He explains that the price of diesel on the international market is around $820 per tonne and that from Russia is around $780 per tonne, to which the cost of freight should be added. Even if Morocco imposes no embargo and tries to remain neutral in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Moroccan banks, whose correspondents are mainly European, are not able to "open letters of credit or pay for supplies from Russia, given the European restrictions," he develops.
