Evangelical Pastor Warns of Rising Islamic Conversions Among Youth

While the issue of conversion to Islam, estimated between 150 and 200 per year, is not often addressed by the Catholic Church, this is not the case with evangelicals. Interviewed by Le Point, the pastor of Moroccan origin, Saïd Oujibou, addresses the issue of "Islamist proselytism" and is concerned about a lack of solidarity within the ranks of evangelicals.
The first conversions date back to 2001, but have truly gained momentum since 2015, due to the cohabitation of young people with Muslims, and also because those seeking the ideal are more attracted by deadly attacks. In addition, several pastors seeing themselves as superior to Muslims, sometimes despise them without wanting to face their failures, said Saïd Oujibou.
In the interviewee’s opinion, Muslims remain more supportive, which is not always the case with evangelicals. "With Muslims, it is your whole life that you are supported, from sunrise to sunset, from birth to death, hence the attraction of young evangelicals. However, we must not be naive, the Islamists do a lot of proselytism," he said, concluding that he does not see Islam as a competing religion.
