Europol and Moroccan Police Seize 3,000+ Stolen European Smartphones in Casablanca Raid

The judicial police of Casablanca, in collaboration with Europol (European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation), carried out an operation that led to the seizure of thousands of phones stolen in Europe. These latest generation phones are not yet marketed by the brand’s distributor in the Moroccan market.
More than 3,000 phones were seized, reports Al Massae, adding that, based on the initial investigations, the owners of the Derb Ghalef stores that were selling these smartphones were questioned by the judicial police, eager to know their supply channels and their suppliers. The situation is all the more worrying as these latest models are not yet on the Moroccan market by the company in charge of their marketing in the Kingdom, the same source points out.
The merchants concerned by the seizure declared that they had acquired the smartphones from their usual importers, without knowing that they had been stolen in Europe. Economically affected by the seizure of the smartphones, and feeling targeted by the operation, the merchants, determined not to work with this company anymore, organized a sit-in of protest in front of the company representing the brand of the seized phones.
For now, the investigation is focused on the wholesalers who manage to transport stolen phones from Europe to Morocco, while managing to escape the customs services at the borders.
