Europe will more easily expel Moroccans
The European Parliament is tightening the screws. By placing Morocco on its list of "safe countries", Strasbourg is paving the way for accelerated asylum procedures and rapid repatriation of Moroccan nationals.
This is a firm turning point in the migration policy of the Old Continent. Under the joint pressure of the right and the far right, MEPs on Wednesday validated the integration of Morocco, alongside Tunisia or Egypt, into a common list of countries considered safe.
For nationals of the Kingdom, the impact is immediate: their asylum applications will be processed on an express basis, limiting their chances of success in order to accelerate their return to the country.
The text goes even further by authorizing the expulsion of asylum seekers to third countries having no connection with them, a measure described by the opposition as a "gift to Giorgia Meloni" and her Albanian model.
While the far right justifies this tightening by an "unbearable pressure" on the Member States, the figures nevertheless show a 20% decrease in irregular entries this year. The final adoption of these measures now seems to be just a formality.
