Essaouira Calls for Better Transport Links to Rest of Morocco

André Azoulay, advisor to King Mohammed VI, and founding president of the Essaouira-Mogador Association, implicitly reproaches a number of things to the various Ministers of Equipment who have succeeded each other.

On the occasion of the tribute paid to him recently by Tétouan as part of the first edition of the Colloquium "The Soul of Al Andalus", André Azoulay implicitly reproached these ministers for not having worked for the construction of highways and the realization of a high-speed rail line connecting the other cities of the Kingdom to Essaouira, reports Assabah.

"I take the opportunity of the presence of ministers, government members and senior officials to tell you one thing, since each one is responsible for realizing certain projects," he said, before pleading for the opening up of the city of Essaouira. To support his plea, the king’s advisor specifies: "the journey of tourists from Paris, Germany, Belgium or England, to Essaouira, takes two or three hours, while the trip from Rabat to this city requires five or six hours".

He also pointed out that "highways are being built on the coast, but end 100 kilometers from the city of Essaouira", and "this did not happen once or twice, but apparently three times". "Enough," he added, deploring a situation that has become "unbearable." Azoulay also made known that the high-speed train (TGV) project will be launched shortly. According to him, this has been the subject of discussions between an executive of a French company and the CEO of the National Railway Office (ONCF), "who assured him that the project would be feasible".
