LG Energy Solution to Produce Electric Vehicle Battery Materials in Morocco

The Korean group LG Energy Solution, the world’s second largest producer of batteries for electric vehicles, has decided to set up in Morocco to produce lithium hydroxide.
LG Energy Solution has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Chinese Yahua to produce lithium hydroxide in Morocco. The Korean group hopes to benefit from the kingdom’s free trade agreements with Europe and the United States. According to its explanations, the establishment of its site in Morocco would contribute to strengthening the global supply chain of lithium hydroxide, but would also allow more flexible measures to deal with external management factors.

LG Energy Solution has also signed contracts with critical material producers in Australia, Chile and Germany, in order to set up a global lithium supply chain. Lithium hydroxide is a key component of high-capacity EV batteries.
