Elderly Woman Found Dead in Tangier Home, Authorities Investigate Possible Suicide

A 68-year-old woman was found dead at her home in a working-class neighborhood in Tangier. An investigation is underway to determine if it is actually a suicide.
The body of a 68-year-old woman was found lifeless, hanged with a rope around her neck, at her home in Tangier. The local and security authorities have opened an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy. The body of this sexagenarian who lived alone was transported to the morgue of the Duc de Tovar hospital where an autopsy will be performed.
Suicide cases are increasing in Morocco. "According to reports from the World Health Organization, the number of suicides in Morocco exceeds a thousand cases per year, at a rate of more than three cases per day," reveals the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) in its 2022 report on the human rights situation in Morocco, noting that nearly half of these suicide deaths were recorded in the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region.
