Elderly Belgian Man Found Dead in Morocco Amid Intense Heat Wave

A septuagenarian of Belgian nationality was found dead in his home, in the Sidi Ahmed Tadili neighborhood in Sefrou. The extreme heat wave that has hit the city in recent weeks is said to be the cause of his death.
The circumstances and causes of the victim’s death remain unknown for the moment. His body does not show any signs of aggression or injury, which suggests that he may have died from a chronic illness or due to the heat wave that has affected Sefrou in recent weeks. His remains have been transferred to the morgue of the Ghassani Hospital in Fez for an autopsy, reports Assabah.
The septuagenarian has been residing in this city for a few months. According to his neighbors, he has not shown any signs of life for three days. Last Friday, a strong odor began to emanate from his home, prompting the neighbors to alert the authorities and the police, who went to the scene where they discovered the lifeless and decomposing body of the victim.
On July 24, 17 people died at the Beni Mellal hospital center and four others in the city due to the rise in temperature. Most of the victims are elderly people or those suffering from chronic diseases, according to the regional directorate of Health and Social Protection of the Beni Mellal-Khénifra region in a press release.
