Eid Al-Adha 2025: Key Dates and Significance for Muslim Celebrations

Eid Al Adha 2025 is one of the most important celebrations for Muslims. When will this religious holiday be celebrated this year?
Eid Al-Adha is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Hijri calendar. It usually takes place during the hajj period, the great pilgrimage to Mecca, precisely the day after the gathering of pilgrims on Mount Arafat. And Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Kebir for three days. Different from Eid el-Fitr, which marks the end of the month of Ramadan, Eid al-Adha commemorates the act of submission of the prophet Abraham to God, through the ritual sacrifice of a sheep. The event is celebrated by Muslims in the form of an animal sacrifice.
What date for the feast of sacrifice? Morocco has announced that the observation of the crescent moon for Eid al-Adha would be effective Tuesday. Saudi Arabia has announced the same news. According to a Moroccan astronomer, the feast of sacrifice will be celebrated on June 7. Other astronomers expect Saudis to celebrate the holiday on Friday, June 6. According to astronomer Ibrahim Akhyam, poor weather conditions will not allow religious authorities to observe the crescent moon with the naked eye. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the board of the Astronomical Society of the United Arab Emirates, has stated that Eid Al Adha should take place on June 6, reports Gulf News.
